A Play Day

There have been a couple of things I've been wanting to play with, and today was my play day! There was a charm packet of Asian fabrics from Moda, including some fish fabric. The rest is all from scraps from my QFF Wayne. He was working on this quilt and packaged up his leftovers. Somehow I talked him into giving me these, and today I joined them together. Here is a Mors bag on its way to a blogger friend in Florida, and I have enough fabric left to make a second bag. I think there are also the beginnings of a couple of mug rugs here, part of an informal swap in my Chicago Modern Quilt Guild. I'm still deciding what I want to do. What a luxury to have a day to experiment and play!

For Wendy

I have a QFF - Quilting Friend Forever in Wayne Rhodes.  He's my quilting Doppelganger, even to the extent that both of us are left-handed and we each sew on a Husqvarna. My friendship with him is invaluable.  Last year I made a quilted jacket for his wife Wendy.  A couple of times John and I have gone out with Wayne and Wendy. If Wayne and I lapse into quiltspeak, there is great rolling of the eyes by John and Wendy.  Last night they were over for dinner, and I gave Wendy this little purse made from her jacket scraps, perhaps as a bribe to keep her eye rolling to a minimum.  John is another story...

Variations on a Theme

Sewn bags are hot. There are tons of patterns. Buddy Marjorie Hughes gave me this pattern for quilted bags using fat quarters. I'm not sure where this set of fabrics came from. I know they are a bit Christmassy and wintery. But it is still January, right? The red pockets, red handles, and stitching in red thread are good complements to these fabrics.

But remember that my fascination for bags began with Wayne's gift to me of a Mors bag as well as an introduction to the Mors Bags website. There is a free pattern there as well as tracking of people who have established "pods" at morsbags.com. Wayne is now over 100 bags, and I am catching up with him.

We just discovered our bed sheet has worn away in one area. After it's washed, I think I'll cut the remaining good parts into linings for Mors bags. Reduce, reuse, recycle!
